Captive-Bred African Sulcata Tortoise Hatchlings — Rehoming Adoption
About the Hatchlings
Species: African Spurred Tortoise (Centrochelys sulcata)
Condition: Active, alert, and healthy with fully absorbed yolk sacs and smooth shell growth.
Husbandry: Started under calibrated linear UVB lighting, maintained in high-humidity microclimate enclosures (75%–80%) to prevent pyramiding, and given daily warm hydration soaks.
Diet: Established on high-fiber, pesticide-free broadleaf weeds, dandelion greens, clover, and mixed grasses.
Important Species & Long-Term Commitment Notice Sulcata tortoises are the third-largest tortoise species in the world. They grow rapidly and can reach 80 to 150+ lbs with a lifespan exceeding 70–100 years. Adopters must understand that these hatchlings will eventually require a secure, dedicated outdoor yard with heated winter shelter as adults.
Adoption Requirements & Screening
To ensure each tortoise goes to a safe, prepared home:
Enclosure Verification: Adopters must provide a photo of their prepared indoor setup (appropriate substrate such as damp coco coir, heat source, linear UVB fixture, and shallow water dish).
Rehoming Fee: $80 adoption fee (helps support incubation resources and filters for serious, committed keepers).
Hand-Off: Local in-person pickup only. No live shipping.
Care Support: Each adopter will receive a copy of our digital Sulcata Care Guide covering feeding protocols, environmental parameters, and growth milestones.
